While Nandita Das is gung ho about her directorial debut, she has not given up on acting just yet. The dusky actress, who has a series of offbeat films to her credit, is ready with her first film as a director, titled In Such Times. She seems equally enthusiastic about her acting career, and why not, considering the acclaim she enjoys.
Nandita recently acted in the Pakistani film Ramchandra Pakistani, which will reportedly be screened at some prominent international film festivals. This cross-border film has helped her gain appreciation she totally deserves. Speaking about the film, she said, “Ramchandra Pakistani is directed by Mehreen Jabbar. It was shot in Sindh and recently premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. It was well received and I think it’s relevant for both, India and Pakistan.”
As for her directorial venture, she says, “It stars Naseeruddin Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Tisca Chopra, Deepti Naval and lesser known actors who will definitely find a place in the industry after this.” Does she prefer directing to acting? “I choose to act, direct, talk to you, read a book, sing a song and so on,” she retorts. The powerhouse performer clearly refuses to limit herself.
